So yeah, "On the Road Again" 2001
Tuesday, April 17, I wake up and it's a great day because I know I'm gonna get to see one of the best shows on Earth. Anyhow, I have to go to school and sit thru 3 classes....Spanish, Geometry and Chemistry. *sigh* the latter 2 are the worst of the day! Anyhow, I get to leave after 3rd hr. with my bestest bud Jenni, so we go back to my place and get ready while waiting for the other 3/5ths of the posse: Matt, Matt, and Sara who can't leave school til 12. We live roughly 1 1/2 hrs. from Minneapolis and I have to be there at 5 for my fan club tix. We hit the road at 12:30 to go get something to eat and to get gas for Matt's Lumie...we stopped at Taco Bell (yum!) and hit an SA for gas. Matt ends up over filling his tank and getting gas on his pants making the whole car smell like gas! After that it was onward to The Quest. The maps we had totally sucked and we went a completely different way than what was marked. Frotunately, Matt knew what he was doing and we got to Minneapolis with plenty of time to spare. That was the easy part. Finding the actual venue was the problem. |
The saga continues
After driving back and forth on Hennapin Ave and other various streets, we decided to break at Dairy Queen and play "who's the sucker who's gonna ask for directions". Upon finishing our Blizzards, we stop at a gas station and Matt # 2 and I go in and ask, "Hey, wtf is the Quest?" and it turns out we are like, 2 blocks away from it. Okay no prob. We get there and park...and then proceed to the place, but you know how boys are~we girls walk into the building where the escalators are while the boys climb the ramps and cars and go the totally opposite (wrong) way. Anyhow, we get to the Quest and have to stand in different lines. Jenni and I in the fan club ticket line, Matt, Matt, and Sara in the regular ticket line. It was shady standing by the building and the wind wasn't very pleasant. (Not to confuse you, but while standing in line a couple of guys we knew showed up: names: Matt and Matt.) So anyhow, we're waiting in line in chilly temps when all of a sudden a bus pulls up....looks interesting...

I'm With the Band
This bus belongs to a band, but I had no idea who these guys were. They were approched by a few fans, but I was completely oblivious to who this band was. Turns out the band is Ace Troubleshooter! I never had heard of any of their stuff, but they rawked. Meanwhile, during all this commotion Benji and Joel of Good Charlotte are in the alley next to the "other" ticket line...Matt & Matt got to see/talk to them....!!! Sound checks were being done while we were waiting in line so everyone was getting anxious. Matt had to pee really bad so he and the other Matt went into the club to try to find some bathrooms. I guess it took too long to find them because Matt ended up peeing on the top floor of the Quest... Upon thier way down, they wandered aimlessly until BAM!! they run into a black curtain occupied on the other side by *ahem* G.C. |
Punk Rawk Show
The show itself was good. Ace only did a couple of songs and then it was time for GC who I missed part of due to the timing of the mxpx meet & greet. (WELL worth it by the way) I missed "Walk By", "Waldorf Worldwide", and "Don't Wanna Stop", but came back in time for the remainder of the set includung "Seasons". Oh geez. During this song all the couples in the place were like, hugging and kissing and singing to each other. Don't get me wrong, I like all that stuff, but not at a rawk show. COME ON!!! So anyhow, the closer was "Little Things" and it was great. Then it was time for the big show. WWWOOOOOOOOOHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

"...I used to sing it at the top of my lungs over and over."
Time for the main event-mxpx! I was on the left side of the stage(Tom's side), and superclose to the speakers. The bass line vibrates thru you and rattles your skull...it's rad. Anyhow, the set was really killer except they didn't play anything from Teenage Politics and they didn't do "kkk took my baby away". I mean, c'mon, Joey just died and they don't play their infamous Ramones cover. They did however play "Summer of 69". Most of the set was from Life In General and SGTWOTB and a few from the EPM, AND THEY DIDN'T OPEN WITH "THE THEME FIASCO"!!! This year they had a kid come up from the crowd (I think his name was John) to sing back-ups in a medley (Fist vs. Tact, Small Town Minds...I think there was another song too...I can't remember). But the best part of the whole show was the encore. |
ONE MORE SONG!
The actual set closed with "Chick Magnet" and the band gracefully left the stage. The chants then started "One MORE SONG!" And we got way more than that. It was the coolest PX encore I have witnessed. They came out rawkin' it with Tom doing the Clash song "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" and it was SO RAD! Tom's voice was perfect for the song. And after that "Responsibility" got EVERYONE in the crowd jumping. The closer of course was "Punk Rawk Show" and it ended a wonderful night of explosive sound. An all around good time was had by all.
I can't remember ALL the details about the night, but it rawked and EVERYONE should see an mxpx show the next time they tour thru your town. FOR REAL!
